Madhya Pradesh: State MBBS students will be lectured about RSS founder, Bhartiya Jana Sangh leader Deendayal Upadhyaya, KB Hedgewar, Swami Vivekanand and B R Ambedkar, as part of the first-year foundation course. Swami Vivekanand, Hedgewar, Upadhyaya, are part of the Hindutva pantheon of the Sangh, considered to be the ideological mentor of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).In the ethics part of the Foundation Course for newly-admitted MBBS first-year students, the chapters will be included.

Producing value-based individuals and teaching them about icons who fought for the country’s independence is the idea behind it, according to the Sarang. Mr Sarang, minister of Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehab said, “We will include biographies of those who fought for our freedom and made a contribution to the foundation course of the National Medical Commission (NMC). The course will include the efforts of Dr Hedgewar, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhayay, Bhimrao Ambedkar, and Vivekanand among others.”

However, the Congress Party questioned the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s motive. “Why only Hedgewar and Deendayal ji? BJP government should also teach children about Savarkar and Godse, so that they know how many times Savarkar wrote apologies to the British and Godse killed Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation,” Former Pradesh Congress Committee chief Arun Yadav said.

The syllabus of the MBBS course will be decided by NCB. For each subject, the topic will be set. But the States’ education department is empowered to prepare the content of the Foundation Course subject, sources in the medical fraternity said. Every year about 2,000 students take admission in the MBBS course in Madhya Pradesh.
