Bashing back at Rahul Gandhi, BSP chief Mayawati Friday criticized his comment on her party’s political stance. In a tweet on X (formerly Twitter), Mayawati said the Congress was acting like the BJP’s ‘B team’ in the Delhi Assembly elections, during which the BJP secured a victory in the national capital.
“Congress contested elections in Delhi as B team of BJP and that’s why it won, it is widely discussed. Otherwise, Congress would not have faced such a humiliating defeat in which most candidates of the party lost even their deposit.”
Mayawati, in a sharp rebuttal, advised Gandhi to introspect his own party’s failure before blaming others, particularly the BSP. She also said: “It would have been preferable if Mr. Rahul Gandhi first introspects into his own party before making rash comments against me as well as the BSP.”
While addressing Dalit students of Raebareli, Rahul Gandhi was disappointed over Mayawati’s refusal to ally with Congress against the BJP. But somehow, Behenji did not come with us in the fight against the BJP. That was deeply disappointing. Under such circumstances, if the BJP had won at all, had all the three not united, he had said.
“In this response, Congress adopted a double standard towards BSP,” said Mayawati. “For BSP and its followers, the stand it takes in states where Congress is in power is that of a casteist and hostile attitude. In states like UP, Congress is weak, and they talk of an alliance with BSP. Is this not hypocrisy, if not?” she remarked.
Her statements only increase the already volatile dealings of the opposition BSP and Congress.
