Lucknow: Following the ruling by the High Court on the ASI survey of Gyanvapi, there seems to be a sense of dissatisfaction among the community. While they affirm their commitment to abide by the verdict of the Supreme Court, there is a glimmer of hope for resolution amidst this ongoing dispute.
Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, the president of All India Muslim Jamaat, shared his perspective on this matter. He emphasized the significance of Gyanvapi as a mosque where daily prayers take place. Despite having reservations about the High Courts decision regarding the survey he reiterated that Muslims are willing to respect whatever final judgment is delivered by the Supreme Court.
Highlighting Muslims’ constitutional loyalty across India, Maulana Shahabuddin drew parallels with how they demonstrated respect for the system during the conclusion of the Ayodhya case. He suggested that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath could facilitate a gathering of Muslims to discuss and present his proposed resolution. Such an inclusive platform would enable deliberation on this matter.
Maulana Arshad Madani, president of Jamiat Ulama i Hind and leader of Darul Uloom Deoband expressed concerns regarding conflicts between the survey ruling and The Places of Worship Act, in 1991.
He emphasized the provision, in the Act that prohibits any changes to the condition of sites in the country since India’s independence on August 15 1947. Although the Ayodhya case is not covered by this Act due to its proceedings the Jamiat filed a petition with the Supreme Court more, than two years ago to uphold the principles of the 1991 Act.
