Amarnath: The sudden and unfortunate cloud burst incident at the Amarnath cave on Friday left 28 pilgrims injured near the holy place. Of them, some have been seriously injured and referred to Srinagar for further treatment. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) to enquire about the health of pilgrims who were injured in yesterday’s incident.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) DG Atul Karwal on Saturday said in a statement that at least 16 people have died in the natural disaster that occurred on Friday near the holy shrine of Amarnath. 28 people have been reportedly injured and a total of 8 IAF choppers are engaged in the rescue operations. Survivors who were safely evacuated to Sangam base camp hailed the efforts of Army personnel. Some people have been taken to Baltal and some to Panjtarni.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Sachin Sharma while talking to the press reporters said that the relief and rescue operation is underway. All teams of NDRF, SDRF, Indian Army and State Forces are working in coordination, It is difficult to predict the exact time to complete the rescue operation.
