New Delhi: The last rites of the ninth Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh, started today and proceeded from Congress House to Nigambodh Ghat near Kashmere Gate in New Delhi. The cremation is scheduled to take place with full state honours at 11:45 AM.
Earlier this morning, the mortal remains of Dr Singh were taken to the Congress party headquarters to enable the people to come and have a look. This venue saw a continuous arrival of leaders of the political parties, supporters together, and ordinary citizens who had come to give the final funeral rites to the man who has made an immeasurable impact on the economic and politico-social booking of India of today. At 9:30 in the morning, the cremation started, and the dead body was taken on a procession towards Nigambodh Ghat.
Congress leader Ashok Gehlot stated that he received very sad news and offered a deep condolence to the family of Dr Singh while noting his significant contribution to India’s economy. He provided a solid foundation for the economic base of the nation. Liberalization was his gift. He lived a simple life, and people of the entire country are shocked and aggrieved after his death, Gehlot added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also planned to attend the cremation ceremony and pay homage to his predecessor. The occasion represents a stage when the inhabitants of the given country grieve for one of the most esteemed politicians.
His wife, Gursharan Kaur, and daughter, Daman Singh, visited the Congress headquarters on Tuesday. The procession has noble bearing and reciprocates the esteem with which the former prime minister was held for his integrity, humility, and visionary leadership.
Dr. Manmohan Singh will be hailed as the mastermind of India’s liberalization along with being a great servant and a man of virtue. Even as we grieve his passing, the cremation at Nigam Bodh Ghat is like the sunset of an era in the annals of Indian political order and leadership.
