West Bengal: As a recent development, the Calcutta High Court received a PIL seeking an order for holding by-polls on the seats that had fallen vacant. The HC has announced to hear the matter on Sept 8.

In the backdrop of the court-monitored probe, Chief Justice of Calcutta, HC Manjula Chellur has been entitled to head the SIT constituted by the Calcutta HC to probe the alleged post-poll violence cases during West Bengal assembly polls.

On Thursday, the Calcutta HC had ordered a probe into cases of alleged murder and rape be carried out. The West Bengal Govt has moved the SC challenging the HC order that directed a court-monitored CBI probe into the case. So far 34 FIRs have been filed against alleged involvement in the murder and other heinous atrocities on BJP workers.

Sources reveal a CBI team had visited Presidency Correctional Home on Thursday, to interrogate the accused held for murder in the Kankurgachi area.

The state BJP alleged that 29 BJP workers were murdered after the assembly elections in which Mamata Banerjee’s TMC scored victorious against the BJP and Left rivals. On the contrary, no other poll-bound states witnessed violence.
