Imphal: The total curfew imposed in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, which restricted the movement of people was relaxed for three hours on Sunday from 7AM to 10AM. The curfew was partially relaxed to facilitate people to buy essential items like food and medicines. People were seen in large numbers on road to stock pile their essentials.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor slamed the BJP over violent clashes in Manipur and said the voters of the Northeastern state are feeling grossly betrayed just a year after putting the BJP in power.

Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar said that he would talk to Maharashtra CM Shinde  to ensure the safety of the students from the state who are currently stranded in violence-hit Manipur.

The Northeast state has been on the boil in the wake of clashes between the majority Meitei community and other tribal groups over a high court order asking the state government to consider including the former in the ST list.

The curfew was imposed on may 3 in the wake of the violent clashes that broke out between tribals and members of the majority Meitei community in Manipur, displaced thousands of people and killing at least 54 so far.
