Tripura: Hours after the resignation of Tripura CM Bhplab Kumar Deb on Saturday, the party in power appointed Dr Manik Saha as the leader of the legislature party and will take oath as CM of Tripura.

Saha succeeds Biplab Deb, who resigned after four years in office. He would take over as the CM a year ahead of assembly elections. The big change comes two months after he was retained as the state BJP chief in the organizational rejig.

Saha taking to Twitter soon after the announcement said- BJP top leadership gave me an opportunity to serve the people of Tripura state, for this I would like to thank and express my gratitude.

Who is Dr Manik Saha?

Dr Saha, a Professor of Dental Surgery, joined the BJP in 2016 from the Congress. He was appointed state BJP president in 2018. Dr Saha had been elected to the upper house in the biennial elections held earlier this year.

Tripura is scheduled to undergo polls in the upcoming year. The BJP won 36 seats, striking down the 25-year long rule of Left Front Government under Manik Sarkar.
