Nellore: The Nellore police on Tuesday have detained a 35 year old man for allegedly slitting the throat of a 14-year-old girl and pouring acid on her face.
The incident Venkatachalam village’s Chemudgunta colony on Monday afternoon, police added.
Preliminary information reveals the accused was intoxicated while committing the act.
As per reports the incident took place on Monday afternoon when the girl was alone in the aftermath of which the eye witnesses called the girls father who immediately rushed her to the govt hospital and was later shifted to Apollo Hospital for comprehensive treatment. Doctors said that the victim was in critical condition as her face was burnt in the acid attack.
Venkatachalam Police, who investigated the case, said that the attacker, who is a relative of the victim, had also been taken into custody and booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
A case has been registered under sections 326 (a), 307, 448, 354, 509, 376 of the IPC r/w 511 and section 10 r/w 9 of POCSO Act.
Further investigation is underway.
