New Delhi: After a woman doctor filed a complaint against a man for allegedly duping her on the pretext of helping her to get a PG seat in AIIMS Delhi, police arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the case. The accused, identified as Shahduzamman (32), a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, used to make fake profiles on Facebook, contacted women doctors and cheated them. The fraud came to light when the victim filed a complaint at Hauz Khas police station on December 21st, 2020. The woman said that the man allegedly duped her for Rs 6 lakhs on the pretext of helping her in getting a PG seat in AIIMS Delhi.
According to the complainant, she came into contact with one Anshu Vinay who posed as a doctor at AIIMS on Facebook. However, after taking Rs 6 lakhs from the woman, the man started avoiding her calls and switched off his cell phone. When the woman realised that she had been cheated, she lodged a complaint and the police launched an investigation. Upon investigation, police found that the detail of the bank account in which the money was deposited by the complainant was in the name of Shahduzamman. After several attempts, the accused fell into the trap of the police.
During the course of the investigation, the accused disclosed that he had created more than a dozen women doctors. He used to make fake profiles on Facebook by impersonating himself as a doctor in AIIMS and contacting women doctors and cheating them on the pretext of helping them to get PG seats in AIIMS Delhi. For the last 3 years, he was working as a cloth vendor in Hyderabad, Vishakapatnam and other places and only used to visit Delhi when he used to make money or get the money transferred into his account. He used to change his mobile numbers regularly and mostly switched off his mobile after making calls. Police have also added sections 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) to the complaint.
