Uttar Pradesh: A man has been detained in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, for reportedly hoisting the Pakistani flag at his home, officials said on Saturday. 

According to Superintendent of Police Ritesh Kumar Singh, “On Friday, around 11 am, the flag was raised at the suspect’s residence in the Vedupar Mustaquil village area of the Tariya Sujan police station region of the district. He stated that as soon as police learned about the flag, it was taken down.

“The arrested suspect’s name is Salman (21). A case has been filed against Salman and his 22-year-old aunt Shahnaz, who made the flag. In addition, his cousin Imran, who assisted Salman in hoisting the flag, would be charged under the Juvenile Justice Act ” Superintendent of Police Ritesh Kumar added.

This incident comes on the heels of 15th August, which is celebrated as Independence day. This year, the central govt has launched the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate the 75th Independence day. PM Modi launched the Har Ghar Tiranaga campaign under which he urged all citizens to hoist the Indian national flag on their residences.
