Pune: Pune City police apprehended a 26-year-old man named Sanket Mhaske on Tuesday following allegations of assaulting a 36-year-old woman with a wooden stick. The incident occurred after the woman rejected his advances.
The incident unfolded in Koregaon Park, where Mhaske resides. The victim lodged a complaint against Mhaske at the Koregaon Park police station the same day. According to authorities, Mhaske and the woman were acquainted with each other. After spending a considerable amount of time together the woman made the decision to gradually create emotional space between them.
As reported by the police, Mhaske approached the woman near the Burning Ghat crematorium in Koregaon Park at approximately 7 a.m. on Tuesday. He professed his love for her, but upon receiving a rejection, Mhaske became infuriated and resorted to physically assaulting her with a wooden stick. Placing great importance on addressing serious matters like this attack the woman exercised prudence by immediately reporting it to law enforcement.
Swift action was taken by police leading to Mhaskes’ arrest; he has been charged under relevant sections from India’s Penal Code (IPC), which includes attempts to murder, among other offenses. Authorities remain committed not only to investigating thoroughly but also ensuring that appropriate medical attention and support are provided to aid in her recovery process. Such incidents starkly emphasize how imperative it is for society as a whole to confront prevailing issues related to harassment and violence against women – working towards fostering a safer environment where every individual can feel secure.
