Kolkata: Amid the heavy security deployment, the counting of votes for West Bengal bypolls finally concluded. Mamata Banerjee registered a landslide victory in Bhowanipore bypolls against her nearest Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) rival Priyanka Tibrewal with a record margin of over 58,000 votes.
According to the State Election Commission, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee is leading against her rival. The outcome of the bypolls so far shows that she is all set to retain her chief minister’s post as she has firmly consolidated her lead over her rival.
Mamata Banerjee, who has been the chief minister of West Bengal since 2011, announced in Kolkata, “I have won the Bhowanipore assembly bypolls with a margin of 58,832 votes and have registered the victory in every ward of the constituency”. She further added that it is a victory against the conspiracy that was ‘hatched to defeat me from Nandigram’.
