In reply to Pakistan’s request, Malaysia reportedly did not stop an Indian parliamentary delegation from coming to Kuala Lumpur for a visit. A leading news agency reports that, close to the India-Malaysia day event, Pakistan’s embassy made an unexpected push to get Malaysian officials to obstruct the Indian delegation’s planned program.
JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha led the contingent, which included some of India’s senior parliamentarians from the BJP, TMC, CPM and Congress, as well as former diplomat Mohan Kumar.
Word has it that Pakistan wanted to refer to Islamic solidarity and the situation in Kashmir in order to request assistance. The Malaysian authorities refused to let pressure from Islamabad affect the proceedings, and the Indian team was able to complete its planned program.
The reaction from the diplomatic world is seen as a big obstacle for Pakistan trying to bring the Kashmir matter to an international audience, and puts extra strain on India’s relations in the region. Officials in Malaysia stressed that they would interact with every nation in a fair and neutral manner, which included India.
The purpose of the Indian foreign diplomats’ trip to several nations was to increase understanding and teamwork around the world. After finishing their time in Malaysia, the team returned to India on Tuesday. Sanjay Kumar Jha, the delegation leader, confirmed to reporters on arrival that the Indian government’s objectives for the mission were met “to a great extent”.
The episode highlights that India and Malaysia’s relationship is developing and that Pakistan’s efforts in diplomacy there are having less influence.
