NEW DELHI: In a significant move aimed at revolutionizing highway travel and easing the burden on frequent commuters, Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, today announced the introduction of a FASTag-based Annual Pass. Priced at an affordable ₹3,000, this innovative pass is set to come into effect from August 15, 2025, offering a streamlined and cost-effective solution for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans.

The new annual pass is designed to provide unparalleled convenience by eliminating the need for per-trip toll payments. It will be valid for one year from the date of activation or up to 200 trips, whichever limit is reached first. This initiative directly addresses long-standing concerns regarding toll plazas, particularly those situated within a 60-kilometer range, simplifying the toll payment process through a single, affordable transaction.

Minister Gadkari highlighted that the ₹3,000 annual pass can lead to substantial savings for frequent travelers. For instance, if the average cost of a toll crossing is ₹50, making 200 trips would typically cost ₹10,000. With the new pass, the same 200 trips will cost only ₹3,000, resulting in a saving of ₹7,000 annually. This move is expected to significantly reduce wait times, ease congestion, and minimize disputes at toll plazas, thereby ensuring a faster and smoother travel experience for millions of private vehicle owners.

Existing FASTag users will not need to acquire a new tag, as the annual pass can be activated on their current, valid FASTag linked to a vehicle registration number. A dedicated link for activation and renewal will soon be made available on the Rajmarg Yatra App, as well as on the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). This development marks a pivotal step towards a more digitally integrated and commuter-friendly national highway network.
