Mumbai: Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray directed all state departments to stay-put, as Indian Meteorological Department cautioned against heavy rain for four days over all districts of the state including the financial capital of the nation.
The CMs instructions sensitized all departments of the state to be alert and maintain coordination and evacuate all dangerous areas likely to be affected by the rains. The health department is directed to initiate all necessary steps and monitor COVID-19 patients. Vigilant steps to provide uninterrupted treatment to the COVID-19 patients are instructed.

Maharashtra CM said,” NDRF and SDRF units should be deployed where necessary during this time of heavy rains and other central agencies including ONGC should be alerted about the heavy rains during this period.”
India was slammed on 16 May by the strongest storm on record to reach its west coast, hampering authorities’ response to the Covid-19 crisis in some of the country’s hardest-hit regions.
The State government had deployed innumerable NDRF teams to evacuate people from low-lying areas. Covid patients were among the hundreds of thousands evacuated from low-lying areas as the region braced for the cyclone’s arrival. In Mumbai, 580 patients from makeshift care centres were moved to various hospitals according to the city’s municipal corporation.
However, it’s not the first time India has dealt with natural disasters during the pandemic. Last year, the country faced cyclones in late May and early June that also prompted mass evacuations.
