New Delhi: The death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr BR Ambedkar, widely known as Mahaparinirvan Diwas across the country. This day, observed annually on December 6, honours Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, affectionately called Babasaheb Ambedkar, who was the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.

“On Mahaparinirvan Diwas, we bow to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the architect of our Constitution and a beacon of social justice. Dr. Ambedkar’s tireless fight for equality and human dignity continues to inspire generations. Today, as we remember his contributions, we also reiterate our commitment to fulfilling his vision. Also sharing a picture from my visit to Chaitya Bhoomi in Mumbai earlier this year. Jai Bhim!”, wrote PM Modi on X.

Maharashtra declared Holiday

Each year, thousands of people from across Maharashtra travel to Mumbai to pay their respects to Ambedkar at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar’s Shivaji Park, where he was cremated. To manage the increased passenger traffic, special trains are being arranged by the Railways.

On Thursday, Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde paid homage by garlanding Ambedkar’s statue in Thane’s Court Naka area. The 69th Mahaparinirvan Diwas will also be commemorated at Prerna Sthal in the Parliament House Complex. Organised by the Dr Ambedkar Foundation under the Union Ministry of social justice and Empowerment, the event will pay tribute to Ambedkar, a statement said.
