Lucknow: Farmers gathering at ‘mahapanchayat’ in Lucknow today called for a law to guarantee the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farm produce, days after their year-long protest forced the government to announce the repeal of three contentious farm laws. While top farmer leaders will decide on the protest’s destiny later this week, those who attended the demonstration in the capital of poll-bound Uttar Pradesh were unified in their support for an MSP law. “The MSP guarantee is a critical need that must be met. MSP and reduced prices harm everyone, whether they are poor or wealthy farmers “Rakesh Tikait expressed his thoughts.
A farmer from Shahjahanpur in central Uttar Pradesh stated, “We bring our products to the mandis, where officials treat us badly and refuse to buy it at MSP. If there is a law, we will take these authorities to court and demand that they provide us MSP, which the law guarantees “.. Farmer leaders also expressed their dissatisfaction with the government’s actions in the Lakhimpur Kheri case, in which the son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra is being held on suspicion of murdering four farmers. Farmers have asked that the minister be fired, claiming that a proper investigation would be impossible without him.
“The farmers’ protest will continue,” Tikait had previously stated. The repeal of the Agricultural Law was only one of the issues. There are still some issues to be resolved. The number of cases brought against farmers and the number of farmers who have died is a significant concern. The government will also be held responsible for the farmers’ deaths, and their families will be required to offer financial assistance. The BKU leader, from his official Twitter handle, gave a call to the farmers to reach the mahapanchayat and appealed to the labourers, farmers, youths to come out in large numbers to participate in the meeting. On November 27th, the farmers’ front has summoned another meeting to assess the situation.
