Mumbai: A day after arrest, MP Navneet Rana and her husband Ravi Rana have moved the Bombay High Court seeking the quashing of the FIR registered against them over their threats to recite the Hanuman Chalisa outside Maharashtra CM private residence. The notice of which surfaced hours before Justice Varale’s bench hears the case today.
The politician couple on Sunday, was arrested by the Mumbai Police on the charge of “creating enmity between different groups”, rejecting the police’s demand for their custody.
Independent MP Navneet Rana was sent to Byculla Women’s Jail while MLA husband was sent to Taloja jail in Navi Mumbai after completion of the legal formalities.
An FIR has been lodged under Sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc, and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, and sections 37(1) and 135 of the Bombay Police Act.Later, the police also added IPC Section 124-A (sedition) against them.
