MUMBAI: A Maharashtra-based businessman was arrested for making a hoax call to the police that three terrorists with Pakistan links had entered Mumbai, an official said on Friday.
The accused, a 47-year-old businessman identified himself as one Raja Thonge from Pune and gave the name of one of the “terrorists” as Mujib Mustafa Sayyad. A resident of Ahmednagar, Raja whom he first identified himself who was locked in a property dispute according to officials made the hoax call just to harass his relatives.
The incident took place on April 7th. During the call to the Mumbai police control room, the accused was reportedly said to have provided a mobile number and a vehicle purportedly being used by the trio. “The mobile number was registered in the name of a man from the Beed district but he had no clue about any terrorists, the official said. Further investigations confirmed that the call was a hoax, he said.
The arrest was sought based on a probe launched that used technical analysis and other inputs. The Nashik ATS handed Yasin Sayyad over to the Azad Maidan police who formally arrested him.
