A terrorist, attached to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), was killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Dachigram area on Tuesday.

The terrorist, identified as local Lashkar commander Junaid Ahmed Bhat, was involved in civilian killings in Gagangir, Ganderbal, and several other terror attacks, the Kashmir Police said in a statement.

The search operation turned into a gunfight after terrorists fired at a search party of the security forces who retaliated. In the exchange of fire on Tuesday morning, a terrorist identified as Junaid Ahmed Bhat, was killed, the officials said.

Bhat was captured on CCTV just days after the October 20 attack at a tunnel construction site in Ganderbal that killed a doctor and six migrant workers.

A CCTV image emerged just days after the attack showed Bhat entering a worker’s camp where the labourers and other staff working on the tunnel project lived.

Bhat, a resident of Kulgam, can be seen dressed in black and wrapped in a grey shawl, carrying a rifle in the picture
