New Delhi: India reported  42,640  fresh infections in the past 24 hours. This took the cumulative count of infections to 2,97,24,599 stated the Union Health Ministry. 86.16 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered across the country in the last 24 hours.

The recovery rate at 96.49 per cent accounted for  81,839  recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to  2,89,26,038.  The daily positivity rate stood at  2.56%, less than 5% for 15 consecutive days. 

The number of active cases has reduced to  6,62,521 accounting for 2.21 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of  40,366  in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.30 per cent reported 1,157  deaths, taking the cumulative death toll to  3,89,302.

21 cases of the Delta Plus Covid variant, the mutant version of the Delta variant, have been found in Maharashtra so far, state Health Minister Rajesh Tope said. 

ICMR reported testing 16,64,360 infected samples in the past 24 hours. So far, 39,40,72,142 have been tested by ICMR since the outbreak.

As per data issued by the government, 28,87,66,201 beneficiaries have been immunized against the virus since the initiation of the mega inoculation drive. Out of these 86,16,373 vaccines were administered in the past 24 hours.
