Another heart-wrenching event was also reported early in the morning of Saturday, as a two-year-old female leopard was discovered dead on the Gurugram-Faridabad road, which once again evoked the urge of wildlife experts to establish emergency protective systems in the area. The carcass was found at about 6:30 am, approximately one kilometre from the police post at Pali on the Faridabad side.

All initial reports indicate that the leopard must have been involved in a car crash, which killed them, according to Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Ramkumar Jangra. The animal is bleeding a lot, and it seems that the death is caused by a wound to the head. The intensity of the accident shows that there was a high-speed collision with a heavyweight vehicle. The precise reason would be established once the postmortem, he added. An autopsy is planned to be performed on Saturday by a group of veterinary doctors.

This is not alone. The same road stretch has been reported to have suffered similar deaths, such as an eight-month-old female leopard in 2015 and a 12-year-old male leopard at Manesar. This road, according to environmentalists, is cutting through a very important wildlife area that connects Asola Sanctuary and the Aravalli Hills, which is an important habitat for leopards and other wildlife animals.

The conservationists are now insisting on the construction of wildlife crossings in the form of overpasses, underpasses, or elevated sections of roads, which should be constructed immediately. Such measures would enable the animals to cross over the busy roads safely without any danger of being involved in traffic. Vaishali Rana, a local environmentalist, stressed that a special wildlife passage should be set up along this route. This would not only safeguard wildlife but would also guarantee the safety of commuters.

The deadly accident highlights the necessity to rethink the process of infrastructure development in ecologically vulnerable locations. With the increasing urban growth that encroaches on the natural habitats, such occurrences will keep on happening unless preventive measures are put in place.
