Mumbai: India’s Nightingale bids adiue, leaving a mark in the Indian history. Padma Bhushan awardee Lata Mangeshkar breathed her last batttling after effects COVID-19, sources reported.The 92 year old legendary singer was hospitalized three weeks ago, after she presented mild symptoms and was diagnosed with pneumonia.On Saturday she was put back on ventilator support after her health deteriorated.
Scores of tributes poured on the demise of the legendary singer. PM Modi the first to share the news says he was anguished by the loss. His Twitter post on Lata didi read- “The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people.
“Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said Lata Mangeshkar remained the most beloved voice of India for many decades. “Her golden voice is immortal and will continue to echo in the hearts of her fans. My condolences to her family, friends and fans,” he tweeted.
Lata Mangeshkar the daughter of Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, was the eldest of the five siblings. Little did the world know in year 1942, the Indian film frtaternity would be blessed with a golden voice. Starting her career after he father’s demise, Lata Mangeshkar had an early hit with Ayega Ane Wala in 1945.From there, Lata Mangeshkar’s voice and career soared to the greatest of heights. She sang raga-based compositions by Naushad in films like Baiju Bawra, Mother India and Mughal-E-Azam, Shankar-Jaikishan’s melodic hits in Barsaat and Shree 420; Salil Chowdhury’s lilting tracks in Madhumati Three more Filmfare Awards came by way of Bees Saal Baad, Khandan and Jeene Ki Raah. Lata Mangeshkar won three National Awards for Best Female Playback Singer for the films Parichay, Kora Kagaz and Lekin. Other memorable films in her credits include Pakeezah, Abhimaan, Amar Prem, Aandhi, SIlsila, Chandni, Sagar, Rudali and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
Lata Mangeshkar’s departure has indeed left a void that cannot be filled. May her soul rest in peace.
