Union minister Ajay Mishra, whose son is charged with murder in the Lakhimpur Kheri riots on October 3, claimed on Friday that his son is “innocent” and that he will appear before the Uttar Pradesh police on Saturday to give his statement. The minister stated that his son Ashish missed the police summons for Friday at 10 a.m. because he was “not well.”
On Friday morning, he was meant to record his statement, but he missed the deadline. Police have issued a new summons, requesting that he appear for questioning at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
If Ashish Mishra fails to appear before investigators, police have threatened legal action. Mishra was driving the car that ran over the farmers as they were leaving a protest. They were opposing three agricultural rules passed by the Centre in September of last year.
