Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajaya Mishra who is accused of killing farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri last year in October.

The bench of Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli headed by the Chief Justice cancelled the bail stating that the victims were denied a fair hearing. “In the present case, the victims have been denied a fair and effective hearing at the time of granting bail to the Respondent-Accused (Mishra),” the SC bench said.

The rejection came to the fresh bail plea that was filed by the counsel after the apex court overturned the order of the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court issued in February 2022 granting bail to him. Cancelling the bail, the apex court directed the Allahabad High Court to decide on the appealing counsel’s bail plea.

The incident that took place in Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3rd 2021, transformed into political trivia. A case was filed and the SC swung into action appointing retired Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Rakesh Kumar Jain to monitor and probe the incident.
