Kulgam: The death toll in the ongoing encounter in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir rose to eight on Sunday as two more bodies of security personnel were recovered. Two Indian Army soldiers including an elite Para Commando laid their live while battling the encounter that began on Saturday. The gun fight broke out on Saturday, first at Motergam and then at Chinigam villages. Sources revealed that two soldiers and four militants were killed yesterday and two militants were killed on Sunday morning.
Director General of Police (DGP), R. R. Swain called the encounter a milestone in their fight against militancy. DGP informed that six terrorists have been killed till now, claiming it as substantial progress in creating a secure environment in the state.

Meanwhile, another gunfight emerged in Chinigam village wherein the militants began to fire when security forces closed in. The area has been cordoned off on the reports of the intelligence unit. Four militants and a soldier were killed in the same incident.
