As today marks the 111th birth anniversary of Patron Saint Mother Teresa, Kolkata missionaries of charity sisters celebrated the occasion by offering prayers. Kolkata is where mother Teresa spent a lion’s share of her life after coming to India in the late 1920s.
The city of joy is also the place where she took her last breath in the year 1997. She was 87 years old when she died. She had been awarded the Nobel peace prize in the year 1979. But she refused to accept the prize money of USD 192000 and asked the authorities to use the money for the poor people of the society. She devoted all her life to the aid of the needy and poor section of society.
Mother Teresa laid the foundation of the Missionaries of charity in the year 1950, which was known as the roman catholic religious congregation back then. The sisters of these missionaries offered prayers on her 111th birth anniversary today. Not only them but several sisters and bishops from other parts of the country (and world) have remembered her on her birth occasion.
A bishop for a goa church said, “Mother is not among us, but she is in heaven praying for us all, looking after us all. The world is hungry for love and peace. There is no love and justice, there is so much fighting and wars. Mother showed love to all. If everyone shows the same love to one another, the world will be a peaceful place. I pray on this occasion that everyone lives together with this feeling of love. Mother gave us this message which she received from Jesus Christ and we all must live following it”.
At the age of 18, Teresa left her home to serve the needy. She was given state honor at her funeral by the central government for her outstanding work towards the needy section of society.
