India: Today, through a video conference at around 11 AM, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the 450 kilometers long Kochi-Mangalore natural gas pipeline built by GAIL India Ltd. Earlier, a statement by PMO mentioned the day as a “landmark day in India’s quest for #UrjaAatmanirbharta”.
PM Modi, in his speech during the inauguration of the gas pipeline, expressed high hopes for the project. Calling it a ‘futuristic project’, he said that the pipeline will bring a lot of positive changes in the lives of many people, by bringing considerable economic growth in both Karnataka and Kerala.
The 450 kilometers long pipeline is spread between the two southern states, starting from Kochi in Kerala and ending at Mangaluru in Karnataka. PM Modi has shared the video conference on his Twitter handle, where he inaugurated the pipeline.
The Prime Minister is heard saying (in Hindi) – “This is an important day for India, especially for the people of Kerala and Karnataka. These two states are being connected by a natural gas pipeline”. He also added –“The pipeline will facilitate the ease of living for lakhs of people in both the states and also give a boost to the tourism sector”.
Notably, the PMO, in a recent statement, said – “The 450km long pipeline built by GAIL (India) Ltd marks an important milestone towards the creation of ‘One Nation One Gas Grid’. The Rs.3,000 crore project, which will carry natural gas from the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Regasification Terminal at Kochi to Mangaluru, while passing through Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts, has the transportation capacity of 12 million metric standard cubic meters per day”.
