On Tuesday, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that the Parliament’s winter session will commence from November 25 and end on December 20.

The session will include both Houses of Parliament and is expected to contain several more significant issues. Rijiju said, “Hon’ble President, on the advice of Govt of India, has agreed to call both Houses of Parliament for Winter session 2024 scheduling from 25.11.2024 to 20.12.2024, excluding the days, if required for any emergent Parliamentary business.” Additionally, Constitution Day on November 26 will mark a special occasion: the 75th anniversary of the adoption of India’s Constitution, being held in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan.”

The next session’s processes are expected to concentrate on passing action-oriented legislation, such as the contentious Waqf (Amendment) Bill. The joint parliamentary committee for the consideration of the Waqf Amendment Bills 2024 has been holding meetings with the stakeholders in different states to address the problems that might arise and come to a common conclusion about the bill. It will most probably be their priority as they will consider it an important piece of legislation.

Besides, the government may pass the One Nation One Election Bill, a bill to revise the election schedules to hold Lok Sabha and state assembly polls together. The above move was praised by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that it will help develop the best utilization of resources and enhance India’s democracy and vision to develop India in the future. He also touched on signals of changes to the direction of enforcing a Uniform Civil Code, which he referred to as a Secular Civil Code for all the country’s people.

Nevertheless, the idea of holding simultaneous elections has not been welcomed. The Congress party has expressed its protest and asked the Prime Minister to discuss with all the parties and get a voice vote in Parliament before going ahead with the One Nation One Election idea. This indicates that debate on these fundamental issues will be outstanding with the upcoming winter session in the parliament.
