Mumbai: Kesari Chapter 2, directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and starring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, was theatrically released on April 18, 2025. The movie is inspired by the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre that occurred on April 13, 1919. The film is being appreciated by the audience all over the nation, yet netizens were not very satisfied with Ananya’s performance in the film. Recently, Karan Singh Tyagi has defended her and revealed the reason behind casting her for the role of Dilreet Gill. In terms of numbers, ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ performed well over.
The film recorded a slight uptick in its collection on Tuesday when it made around Rs 5 crore, which was likely due to reduced ticket prices. It seems like, despite all the positives, Kesari 2 will not be the film that pulls Akshay out of his rut of consecutive flops. Kesari Chapter 2 started its box office journey with Rs 7.75 crore at the box office, and after a week, it has yet to cross the Rs 50 crore mark.
Karan Singh Tyagi has his legal background to thank for his ability to craft a narrative. The Harvard Law School graduate’s first foray into filmmaking – Kesari Chapter 2 – recently opened to rave reviews.
The Akshay Kumar-starrer chronicles the story of how C Sankaran Nair, an Indian barrister in the colonial era, used the power of the law to uncover the truth behind the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919.
Tyagi, the director of the film, graduated from Government Law College, Mumbai in 2009 and went on to do his LL.M. from Harvard Law School. He worked at international law firms in Paris and New York, where he also cleared the Bar.
In a recent interview with Filmfare, Karan Singh Tyagi disclosed the reason behind casting Ananya Panday and stated, “I remember watching Ananya Panday in Gehraiyaan. I was moved by her sensitive acting in that movie. I thought she was good. And she has a vulnerable side to her, and at the same time, she has a steely resolve.”
