More than a year after an inquiry was launched under Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey following allegations of irregularities in the gold decoration of the Kedarnath Temple, another controversy surfaced: a month Later, the Badarinath Kedarnath Temple Committee, BKTC cleared itself of any wrongdoing. When the government launched an inquiry on the temple regarding the allegations of the excessive use of gold in the sanctum sanctorum, it did not find any defaults in the matter.

The scandal broke during the previous June when a video regarding the oxidized gold coating at a particular section of the temple’s innermost sanctum went viral. Some curious scandals appeared – for example, 228 kilograms of gold were given to the temple, which could be all right but did not fit the tales of how gold was used. But review done by BKTC disclosed that, in fact, 23 kg of gold was used for the decoration only as asserted by the donor.

Kedarnath Temple Investigation

The Commissioner of Garhwal, Vinay Shankar Pandey, who was heading the investigation substantially concluded that there were no irregularities in the gold plating work of the temple. The culture secretary gave the probe. Altogether, there are no discrepancies or irregularities, including the gold used for decoration, which has been quantified, and no backing was found for the myth of 228 kg of gold donated. He also stressed that determining who was responsible for the erosion of the incorrect figure is not within the purview of his investigation, and he also rejected it as fake news.

The chairperson of the BKTC, BJP leader Ajendra Ajay, endorsed the committee, stating that the gold plating work was carried out with adequate procedures. This was conducted under the supervision of the Archaeological Survey of India officials approved by the provisions of the BKTC Act of 1939. Quoting tax invoices and receipts for donations disclosed that about 23 kilograms of gold and one thousand kilograms of copper had been used for the ornamentation of the temple.
