Kolar: In an incident of hate crime that took place in Karnataka’s Kolar district, a man named Venkatesh Gowda was apprehended for murdering his 19-year-old daughter, Ramya. The reason behind this act was said to be her relationship with a man from the Nayak community, which is recognized as a scheduled tribe. The arrest came after authorities conducted the exhumation of Ramya’s body on August 27, supervised by Harshawardhan, the tehsildar of Kolara. The body was later sent for post-mortem examination.
Ramya, who belonged to the Vokkaliga community, had been in a relationship with a man from the Nayak community for more than three years. Despite her father’s efforts to discourage her, she remained firm and committed to her partner.
The unfortunate incident occurred on August 25 when Ramya’s father brought up the topic of marriage during a phone conversation with her boyfriend. This led to an argument when Ramya strongly objected to this proposal. Tragically, things escalated out of control. This resulted in Venkatesh Gowda ending his daughter’s life by applying pressure on her throat with his foot, according to police reports.
After committing this act with help from Venkatesh Gowda’s elder brother, Mohan Gowda, and other relatives, the family secretly buried Ramya’s body. However, their sudden disappearance raised suspicion among villagers, who promptly informed the police.
Based on the information provided, the authorities acted upon a tip. Initiated an inquiry, which ultimately resulted in the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) and the subsequent apprehension of four individuals. Among those taken into custody were Venkatesh Gowda and others who were implicated in the activity.
