Karnataka Congress takes dig on PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Bengal; condemns ‘double standard’ of PM

Bengal: The super cyclone ‘Amphan’ has resulted in the large-scale destruction in Kolkata. Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an aerial survey in the affected zones of Kolkata on May 22. To this, the Karnataka Minister took a dig at his visit to Bengal, said ‘we condemn double standard’ of the PM.

Pointing out that he did not visit Karnataka during the flood in the southern state last year that left over 90 people dead, Karnataka Congress took Twitter to express, “We stand in solidarity with cyclone-affected WB. We condemn double standards of @narendramodi. PM has responded by visiting WB for survey, While he never visited Karnataka during floods & landslides. Bengal may be having an election next year but people are suffering here as well”.

Karnataka had witnessed floods and rain in the last year. Around 2,798 villages, 103 Tehsils and 22 districts were affected , claiming 91 lives. About 7 lakh people were shifted to safety.

Bengal Amphan has claimed 86 lives till now. The cyclone has left the earmarks of destruction such as falling trees, blocked roads, broken electric poles and window panes . The National Disaster Relief force sent teams to help out the vulnerable sections of the society.

PM Modi has also assisted Rs 1000 crore of relief assistance to the state. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee has requested the PM to declare the cyclone as ‘Nation Disaster’.
