Karnataka: The Karnataka government has decided to follow the COVID security protocol for the upcoming five days of the Ganesh Chaturthi celebration. According to the new order, only 20 people can participate in the celebration and immersion of the Ganesha idol. In addition, no celebrations will be allowed after 9:00 p.m. the order stated.
The government has also prohibited procession during the celebration. Only the eco-friendly idol of Ganesha can be used for celebration, whereas the distribution of food and prasad will be prohibited. A local newsroom reported that no programs will take place for Ganesh Chaturthi in districts where the positivity rate is above 2%.
On Saturday, Karnataka reported 983 new COVID19 infections and 21 deaths, bringing the total number of infections to 29,54,047 and the death toll to 37,401. 1,620 people were in the last 24hours that took the total number of recoveries to 28,98,874. The number of active cases in the state is 17,746.
At the same time, as daily COVID-19 cases in Kerala continue to rise alarmingly, Karnataka’s Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai told officials on Saturday to ensure that all villages within 20 kilometres of the Kerala border conduct 100% of vaccination. In a meeting with the District Commissioner (DC) and the Superintendents of (SP), as well as with regional ministers in the border areas of Kerala, Bommai said that in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodaku, Chamarajanagar and Hassan the vaccination should be increased by 35%.
