Haryana: On Saturday, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) ended its sit-in protest at Karnal after the Haryana government confirmed a probe into the incident of the August 28 lathi charge. Farm union leaders and the Karnal district administration came to a consensus after several rounds of talks. Haryana Bharatiya Kisan Union Chief Gurnam Singh Charuni confirmed the termination of the protest at the Mini Secretariat.

For the last five days, the farmers had staged a dharna outside the Karnal Mini Secretariat demanding the suspension of SDM Ayush Sinha over his orders to break the heads of farmers protesting in Karnal. They also demanded compensation for the family of a farmer who had sustained injuries in the lathi charge and later died of a heart attack. A retired high court judge will probe the entire incident. The government agreed to send Sinha on leave during the probe period and provide two jobs to the family members of the deceased farmer Sushil Kajal.

Chief Secretary Devender Singh said, “Following a meeting between govt officials & farm leaders, the Haryana government ordered a probe into the August 28 Bastara toll incident, which will be done by a retired high court judge. Probe to be completed in a month. Former SDM Ayush Sinha will be on leave. Deceased farmer, Satish Kajal’s two family members to be compensated with jobs at DC rate on sanctioned posts.”
