J&K Voting: Voting for the third and the final phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly election began this morning across 40 constituencies. Over 39.18 lakh voters will be deciding the fate of 415 candidates at 5060 polling stations, including deputy chief ministers Tara Chand and Muzaffar Beig. Over 19.09 lakh female voters will cast vote today.
Voting began at 7 AM and will continue until 7 PM. While the campaigning for the final phase ended on Sunday evening, security forces were deployed across the state to maintain law and order. The participation of West Pakistan refugees, Valmiki Samaj, and the Gorkha community is the highlight of the polls. All these communities got voting rights in assembly, urban local bodies, and panchayat elections only after the abrogation of Article 370.
The Election Commission of India encouraged people to vote. “Long queues of voters can be seen in Udhampur under third phase of polling. Pallav Khajuria, a PwD voter, cast his vote and thanked the administration for providing all required facilities at the polling station”, informed ECI on X about J&K voting.
The voter turnout was robust in the earlier phases, with 61.38% participation recorded in the first phase on September 18 and 57.31% in the second phase on September 26.
