The security is on the alert by the authorities in the Jammu and Kashmir district of Anantnag after the recent blast in Delhi and a major terror module of white collar terrorists were discovered. In this increased vigilance, the authorities conducted a detailed search of lockers of the doctors and other medical personnel of the Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, authorities said on Thursday.
The inspection push also started with a Wednesday and went through the day. The initiative, according to officials, is also focused on enhancing security as well as full transparency and accountability within the hospital premises. The officials indicated that the step would assist in ensuring that no hospital space and equipment are underutilised and that they are not being used illegally.
The crackdown comes on the heels of a grave find earlier this month, on an AK-47 rifle found in the locker of a doctor by the name Adeel Rather at the same hospital. His arrest then caused revelation of a highly organized terror group with the pretense of professionals commonly known as a white collar module. The ongoing investigations have shown that a number of people associated with the medical fraternity might have been involved. In relation to the case, the scale of the network is also emphasized by the fact that officials found almost 2,900 kg of explosive material.
The union territory has changed perceptions of security agencies due to the Delhi blast and these new recoveries that have led to security agencies re-evaluating the threats that may be posed by criminals in sensitive institutions such as hospitals. The police stressed that the search of lockers was organized and done in a respectful manner and that security and integrity of the institution were considered.
According to the officials, such inspections might be provided in other major facilities as a part of the further policy to prevent the terror activity and destroy the weak points in the infrastructure. As the investigations are still going on, security forces are on the high alert as they are resolved to make sure that such violations of professional setting never recur.
