Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir: There is news of the death of two local citizens in the Rajouri district of Jammu division. It is alleged that the army officers opened fire after noticing suspicious activity near the army camp, which killed two people and one got injured. It is being told that both are local citizens. Due to this, a situation of tension has been created in the area. People have started protesting against the army by blocking the highway.

Initial investigation has revealed that an army sentry allegedly opened fire on Friday morning. Officials said that the victims were reportedly working as porters with the army. At around 6.15 am, they were coming near the Alpha Gate of an army camp, during which the fire was opened.

Shalinder Kumar and Kamal Kishore, both residents of Rajouri, were killed in the firing, while another person was injured, officials said. The cause of the firing is yet to be ascertained. The situation in the area is tense and angry people pelted stones at the army camp, followed by blocking the highway. The protesters are demanding Rs 10 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased, jobs for the relatives, free education for the children, and registration of an FIR in the matter.

Earlier on December 14, a search operation was conducted in Muradpur of Rajouri after the army and police saw suspicious activity in the area. Locals had told the police that at around 5 am, two strangers carrying bags on their shoulders barged into their premises and asked them to open the door.

They called the people around and started making noise, after which both the strangers fled, but immediately army and police cordoned off the entire area and started a search operation. For about 6 hours the army and the police searched every nook and corner, but no success was achieved. The protests after today’s incident are deepening with time.
