On September 17, Jio users from across India listed issues with network connectivity on various social media platforms, with the problem being most apparent around midday. However, as per the information available with the service tracker Down Detector, there has been a drastic spike of 653 Jio network trouble reports by the time when the clock struck 11:13 AM; this has risen to 10,367 trouble reports by 12:18 PM.
According to the Down Detector analysis, it was noted that sixty-eight percent of all the complaints were about users dealing with “No Signal,” further, eighteen percent of the reports were for mobile internet issues, and fourteen percent were for JioFibre. However, other Telecommunications such as Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and BSNL seemed to operate normally using the same data.
Some of the complaints that were posted on the microblogging platform X platform using the “#Jiodown” hashtag included the inability to make calls or send and receive messages from Jio numbers and slow mobile internet, among others. As people communicate more frequently through telecommunications networks due to the COVID outbreak and the adoption of working from home, there has been more traffic, hence more complaints.
This means that the current outage is a misfortune, given that communications have become important in both personal and working lives. Jio users are waiting to hear back about the reason for the disruption to the services as well as when this issue will be rectified. While waiting for this position to be achieved, many customers are waiting to start functioning again with the services provided by the company. Jio hasn’t made a statement regarding the outage or the consequences of the same from their side.
