At the 45th Annual General Meeting Reliance CMD Mukesh Ambani announced that Reliance Jio will roll out 5G services in metro cities Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai, by Diwali this year. The telecom industry has vowed to invest a whooping sum of Rs 2 lakh crore on 5G infrastructure in the country.

“Jio 5G services will connect everyone, every place and everything with the highest quality and affordability. We are committed to making India a data-powered economy even ahead of China and the US,” said Mukesh Ambani. The latest version of the 5G services will be called ‘standalone 5G’. Jio, the nation’s largest telecom operator, has deployed a standalone 5G stack rather than upgrading the existing 4G network, to offer ultra-high speed internet.

He subsequently, added that the company plans to increase Jio 5G footprint month-on-month until December 2023, to deliver Jio 5G to every town, every ‘taluka’ and every ‘tehsil’ of the country.

Reliance Jio acquired 5G spectrum in the 700MHz, 800MHz, 1800MHz, 3300MHz and 26GHz bands during the Department of Telecom (DoT) 5G spectrum auction last month. With standalone 5G, Jio can deliver new and powerful services like low latency, massive machine-to-machine communication, 5G voice, Edge computing and network slicing, and the metaverse. Jio has indigenously developed an end-to-end 5G stack, which is fully cloud-native, software-defined, and digitally managed with support for even advanced features like Quantum Security.
