Vishakhapatnam: The seventh edition of the Japan-India Maritime Exercise (JIMEX) commenced in Visakhapatnam on July 5, 2023. The exercise is being hosted by the Indian Navy and will run until July 10.

“Yokoso Vishakhapatnam- Welcome to Vishakhapatnam! Ship JS Samidarem under command RAdm Nishiyama Takahiro, Commander Escort Flotilla 1 arrived Vizag to participate in the 7th bilateral Japan India Maritime Exercise (JIMEX 23)”, tweeted Indian Navy Spokesperson.

JIMEX is a bilateral maritime exercise that is designed to enhance the interoperability between the Indian Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). The exercise includes a variety of activities, such as anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare, air defense, and search and rescue.

The Indian Navy is being represented by three indigenously designed and built warships: the Sahyadri, the Kadmatt, and the Kavaratti. The JMSDF is being represented by the Izumo, a helicopter carrier, and the Takanami, a guided-missile destroyer.

The exercise is being conducted in the Bay of Bengal and will include both at-sea and harbor phases. The at-sea phase will focus on the conduct of complex maritime operations, while the harbor phase will allow for professional and social interactions between the crews of the participating ships.

JIMEX is an important exercise for both the Indian Navy and the JMSDF. It provides an opportunity for the two navies to train together and to learn from each other. The exercise also helps to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Japan.

In addition to the military aspects of the exercise, JIMEX also includes a number of cultural exchanges. This year, the Indian Navy is hosting a cultural event for the JMSDF sailors. The event will feature traditional Indian music and dance performances, as well as a display of Indian culture and cuisine.

The seventh edition of JIMEX is a testament to the strong relationship between the Indian Navy and the JMSDF. The exercise is a valuable opportunity for the two navies to train together and to learn from each other. It also helps to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Japan.

The Japan-India maritime exercise is an important event that contributes to the security and stability of the Indo-Pacific region. The exercise helps to ensure that the two navies are able to work together effectively in the event of a crisis. It also sends a strong message to other countries in the region that India and Japan are committed to maintaining peace and security in the Indo-Pacific.
