In the recent terror attack at Pahalgam, the deeply disturbing and tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, former Pakistan Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) chief, Imran Khan, has reacted strongly. In a prison statement, Imran Khan called on India to exercise maturity and responsibility instead of jumping to the conclusion of placing blame on Pakistan with little evidence.
He referred to the 2019 Pulwama attack, which he called a “False Flag Operation”, saying, “When my government offered full cooperation to India, not a single piece of concrete evidence was given to us. Such a blame game has also just begun after the Pahalgam incident, as I predicted then.”
In response to the issue, Khan added that instead of introspecting and inquiring, the Indian government has been blaming Pakistan.
In an effort to reaffirm his commitment to peace, Khan cautioned India not to mistake Pakistan’s desire for peace as weakness. “The capability to respond strongly to any misadventure is in Pakistan’s possession, as was done last year with full national support.” He also reiterated Pakistan’s permanent position on the Kashmir issue, saying that it is a case of the right of the people of Kashmir to self-determination in accordance with U.N. resolutions.
Back in India, meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut criticised the central government, pointing out a ‘significant lapse of intelligence’ for which it was responsible. Prime Minister Modi was asked to seek the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah. Raut said an attack of this nature could still have taken place even though the Army was already given operational freedom, as PM Modi chaired such a security meeting.
Meanwhile, the Indian government is in the process of reconvening the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB) of which former RAW chief Alok Joshi has been appointed as its chairman. The top former military officers on the board of the Company include Air Marshal PM Sinha, Lt General AK Singh, Rear Admiral Monty Khanna, indicating a greater emphasis on strategic defence planning.
