New Delhi: India’s first tribal and second woman President Droupadi Murmu administered the Oath of Office to the elected Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

Jagdeep Dhankhar was elected as the 14th Vice President and the successor to Venkaiah Naidu on August 6th defeating Opposition’s Margaret Alva. The BJP-led NDA candidate won the election comfortably with 528 votes against Alva’s 182. The Vice President is also the ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and has secured the highest votes for vice presidential elections held since 1997.

An LLB graduate from the University of Rajasthan, has practised in both the Rajasthan High Court and the Supreme Court of India. He entered public life after getting elected as a Member of Parliament from Jhunjhunu in the 1989 Lok Sabha elections on a Janata Dal ticket. And has also served as a Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs in 1990. He last served as the Gov of West Bengal since 2019 and resigned after being named as the NDAs vice presidential candidate.
