On Monday, former Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar was hospitalized at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, after he fainted twice during the weekend, officials said. The 74-year old who stepped down of the vice-president post in July last year on health grounds suffered health problems on January 10 and was hospitalized at AIIMS where a comprehensive medical checkup was conducted on him. To keep his condition under control, doctors have resolved to keep him under observation and tests.

Dhankhar was reported to have blacked out the two times on Saturday when he was at home, reportedly when he was visiting the washroom. After these incidences, he was asked to take a comprehensive medical examination. Today, he had visited AIIMS to have a routine checkup, and doctors insisted he be admitted so that further tests and evaluations could be done on him.

This is not the first instance that Dhankhar has had such episodes. He has already fainted in a number of earlier occasions in front of the people, when he was in Rann of Kutch, Uttarakhand, Kerala and in national capital, which is a cause of a concern regarding his general health.

Dhankhar maintained a relatively low profile since he resigned as the vice-president on July 21, 2025, making only a few public appearances. His abrupt resignation last year had raised a lot of speculations regarding his health and other political reasons.

At this point there has been no official word of Dhankhar or his family on his present status. The officials of AIIMS have confirmed that he is also under observation and more news about his health will be known after the medical tests are done. The country is still waiting to be clear on recovery and welfare of the former vice-president.
