An Indigo flight 6E 7308, operating from Jabalpur to Hyderabad was diverted to Nagpur on Sunday due to a bomb threat. The airline apologized, saying, “Passengers were provided with assistance and refreshments, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
Flight 6E0573, which departed Kolkata at 10:36 PM, returned to the airport at 10:53 PM after the failure of its left engine. According to a report, a passenger claimed to have seen flames coming from one of the engines. A passenger told media that shortly after take-off, he heard a strange noise and saw flames coming from one of the engines before the plane made its return to Kolkata.
n an official statement, IndiGo said, “Flight 6E 573 from Kolkata to Bangalore on August 30, returned to origin after take-off due to technical issues. The pilot followed necessary procedures and landed back at Kolkata. Passengers were served with refreshments and an alternate aircraft was arranged to operate the flight. We regret the inconvenience caused to the passengers.”
A full emergency was declared at 10:39 PM and withdrawn at 11:08 PM once the situation was under control. Both runways were handed over to Air Traffic Control (ATC) to ensure the aircraft’s safe landing. The passengers and crew were unharmed, and the airline is investigating the cause of the engine failure.
Hoax bomb threats to airports and hospitals have increased in recent times. On June 18, 41 airports including those in Jaipur, Chennai and Varanasi received bomb threat over emails. This led to extensive anti-sabotage checks that lasted for hours, but all the threats were found to be hoaxes.
