Kerala: K Surendran, the BJP Chief of Kerala has once again raised the issue of ‘love jihad’. He states that the Hindu and Christian girls of Kerala are targeted by ISIS(Islamic State of Iraq and Syria). He said, “ISIS is targeting Hindu-Christian girls especially students. Why are they sending couples to Syria if there is no love jihad?” He further added, “In our manifesto, we have categorically clarified that we shall move for legislation if voted to power”.
Surendran also stated that many ‘love jihad’ incidents have taken place in Kerala, but no inquiry took place. He even stated that it is not just the Hindus, but the Christian community in the Southern state who also feels that ‘love-jihad’ has become a much serious issue.
On February 4 of this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs clarified that under the existing laws, ‘love-jihad’ is not defined and so far, no such case has been reported. Also, no such case was reported by any of the Central agencies. On April 6, the assembly elections will take place in Kerala and the result will be announced on May 2.
