Ahead of the new year, there was an outage on the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation’s (IRCTC) website and mobile app, which barred users from booking train tickets. Its services had been interrupted three times this month.
Many people have experienced trouble logging on to the website, and those who do manage to do so are unable to get tickets. When customers tried to book Tatkal (emergency) tickets at 10 am, a significant outage was reported. “@RailMinIndia The IRCTC website is down from 10 am today; I am not able to book tatkal tickets. When I called customer care, they said the site is under maintenance. I just want to ask who in this world keeps the site under maintenance in working hours? You need to change your IT team,” a user wrote on X.
“IRCTC down just before Tatkal booking—classic timing! Anyone else facing the same issue? #IRCTC #TatkalBooking”, another user wrote with the screenshots of he site. “Whenever I try to book a train ticket, I face some problems in the IRCTC app. And if you open it, the app runs so slow that the tickets get exhausted; the railways should take some innovative steps for ticket booking,” a user wrote.
IRCTC has experienced these disruptions for the third time this month. On December 26, “maintenance activity” caused the website and mobile app to go down for one and a half hours. Users found it challenging to make online ticket reservations on December 9 due to an hour-long website outage. The outage warning stated that “maintenance activity” was the reason why the e-ticketing service was not available.
