With the tension in West Asia increasing, Iran has been trying to assure India that its interests in the Strait of Hormuz are safe. This confidence is with the rising worries in the world about the possibility of the shipping routes being disrupted by the current conflict in the area.

Iranian official handle in India wrote in a message posted on social media platform X: our Indian friends have nothing to worry about and they are safe, so there is no need to panic among the Indian stakeholders who depend on energy importation via the route. The Iranian Embassy in Saudi Arabia also made a similar statement, noting that the choice over the future of the Strait of Hormuz would lie with Iran and Oman, in addition to renewals of the statements of safety.

These are the same comments made by the ambassador of Iran to India, Mohammad Fathali, who recently emphasized that Indian ships will have safe passage even in the face of the volatile situation like this. In New Delhi, Fathali called India a trusted partner and emphasized that Indian vessels will not be disrupted when going through the critical waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key oil transit chokepoint in the world, with a large portion of the world crude shipments passing through it. Energy markets and international trading have the immediate consequences of any turmoil in the region.

The reassurances of Iran are being viewed as an effort to retain diplomatic confidence and economical stability particularly to countries such as India which are highly reliant on energy imports through the region.
