Bhopal: The monsoon’s relentless assault on India persists, as multiple states report fatalities, significant damage, and severe floods from unceasing rainfall. Madhya Pradesh is experiencing extensive flooding in several districts, including Balaghat, Mandla, Seoni, Itarsi, and Katni, due to continuous downpours. The human toll is evident here too, with a young man swept away by river currents in Katni and two youths drowning in the Gandhi Sagar Dam in Mandsaur. The forecast of more rain means the situation in Madhya Pradesh remains tense and precarious.
Floods In Himachal Pradesh
In Himachal Pradesh, the past six days have been particularly grim, with 14 lives lost and 28 individuals still unaccounted for due to the heavy rains. Cloudbursts, landslides, floods, and rain-triggered road accidents have been the primary causes of these tragedies. The state has also seen over 500 houses damaged, and authorities are maintaining a high state of alert, preparing for more rain.
On Monday, a warning of heavy rain has been issued in many districts of the state. The Hydromet Division (New Delhi) of the Meteorological Department has estimated the danger of floods, information of which was given to the State Emergency Center and then a letter was written to the District Magistrates asking them to remain alert.
Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan also reeling
Chhattisgarh has been witnessing intense rainfall for the past three days, leading to waterlogging in several areas of Bilaspur.
In Rajasthan, more than 20 districts continue to receive rainfall. A woman died in Dausa after a wall collapsed on her, while in Jhunjhunu, a key road connecting NH-52 caved in due to a strong current in the Bagholi River.
Floods hit Jammu and Kashmir
In Jammu and Kashmir, heavy rainfall on Monday triggered sudden floods in Rajouri and Poonch, resulting in the death of a man identified as Ghulam Mohammad.
The region continues to remain on alert, with the Meteorological Department warning of more downpours in the coming days.
